Baseboard is installed at the base of a wall. It compliments the casing and is usually of the same profile. The sizes of baseboards are important as they can make ceilings and walls seem taller or shorter than they actually are.
At the bottom of the baseboards there is usually a shoe mould or quarter round. This is used not only as added decoration, but serves to hide any gaps between the hardwood or tile and the baseboard itself.
